Privacy policy

WhosRecommended is run by Intelligent Solutions Agency (ISA), based in Sydney, NSW. This policy explains what we collect and what we do with it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

• The details you put in the free check: business name, website address, email address, and your answers about what you do, where, your customers and competitors.
• The public text of your website's homepage and up to four other pages (like services, about, contact and locations), which we read to understand your business.
• The questions you chose and the results of the checks we run for your business, including what each AI assistant replied and the sources it cited.
• If you use our contact form: your name, business, email, phone number if you give it, and your message.
• A record of your consent: the wording you agreed to, the date and time, your IP address and browser type.
• We don't track whether you open our emails.

Why we collect it

To run your check, send you your results and a short series of follow-up emails about improving how AI assistants recommend you, to reply to enquiries, and to tell you about WhosRecommended plans if you're interested. We also use your IP address and email to limit how many free checks can be run, so the service stays fair for everyone.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your information. We use service providers to run the product: Vercel (hosting), Upstash (data storage), Resend (sending email), and AI providers: Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and Perplexity.

Here's exactly what goes to the AI providers. Anthropic receives the text we read from your website, plus your answers (what you do, your suburbs, services and competitors), to work out your details and suggest questions. If your website shows an email address or phone number, that text is included. All four AI assistants receive the questions you chose and your suburb and state. Your sign-up email isn't added to AI requests as a separate field. The questions you choose may include details you type into them; your business name also goes to Anthropic when we read your site. Some of these providers store data outside Australia, including in the United States.

How long we keep it

• Reports: 400 days, so you can compare a year of monthly checks.
• What we read from your website: 7 days.
• Your check history and answers: 400 days after your most recent check (we keep the 20 most recent).
• Your email subscription record: up to 2 years after your most recent check. If you unsubscribe, we keep a note of your email address so we never email you again.
• Contact form enquiries: 2 years.
• Rate limit counters: up to 24 hours. Our server logs record what happened (for example, "a check finished"), not your email, answers or website text.

Unsubscribing

Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. You can also reply "unsubscribe" to any email. We stop emailing you straight away.

Access, correction and deletion

To see, correct or delete what we hold about you, send us a message. If you're unhappy with how we've handled a privacy matter, tell us first, and if we can't fix it you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
